About WorksShop

Jérémie Marié is a French painter working at the intersection of perception and memory. His oil and mixed media works
built in slow, deliberate layers — have been exhibited internationally across Europe, North America, and Asia.
The image arrives first — whole, wordless, already saturated. Painting is the work of getting there.

Ongoing

2026

These are self-portraits. The faces aren't mine, the bodies aren't mine — but the inventory is.
I work from complete images that exist before the canvas does — built, collaged, already overwhelming. The painting is the work of closing the distance.
The image arrives slowly, sometimes in layers, sometimes by section, always on its own terms.

What emerges from the figures — coral, pearls, gold, ribbons, the iridescent and the precious — are things I've always known how to want.

The body here is not a boundary. It's a container that opens. What's inside has always been there.

The skull is in there too. So are the flies, the fish, the flowers going soft at the edges. I'm not far from the old painters and their tables of beautiful perishing things — except my figures aren't warning you. They're showing you what they're made of.

Transformations

2022-2024

Something is wrong with the face. That's where it starts.

I work inside the space between recognition and refusal — the fraction of a second where the brain registers something human and then isn't sure.

The color is too loud. The features are in the wrong place. The smile has too many teeth, or the wrong kind, or it's the only thing left.
I work in oil and aerography, building surfaces that are technically precise in the service of something deeply off. The attraction is real. So is the discomfort. I don't resolve the tension between them, that's where the paintings live.

Boyhood

2021–2024

Not a series — a return.

These works weren't planned together. They came back to the same place across the years: the visual language of childhood

its colors, its objects, its particular kind of strangeness and what happens when something in that language goes slightly, irreversibly wrong.
The figures here are not threatening. That's what makes them unsettling. They belong to a world that should be safe, and almost is.

Daddy Issues (2021) Oil painting on canvas, 65.5x54cm.
Mr Potato Head (2024) oil and airbrush painting on wood 50.8 × 40.6 cm.
